The decision by Zimbabwe Football Association to order a rematch of the Uhuru match between FC Platinum and Dynamos has been criticised by many.
“ZIFA has shown its madness by calling the Independence final game between Dynamos and FC Platinum to be re-played from zero seconds” said Kudakwashe Bangwayo a soccer analyst.
The game was abandoned due to unforseen intervening circumstances when Dynamos was leading by a goal to nil courtesy of Ronald Chitiyo. Under normal circumstances ZIFA should have applied the rules which have been tried and tested in other countries.
When a match is abandoned or ended prematurely due to reasons which are beyond human control. ZIFA and the Sports Recreation committee should have handled the situation in a matter that would not embarass the nation.
Traditionally soccer matches in Zimbabwe starts at 1500 hours but surprisingly the match between FC Platinum vs De-mbare started an hour after and Zimbabwe Electricity Supply Authority went on to switch electricity in the area of Warren Park forcing the match to be abandoned just after 64 minutes of play.
Under normal circumstances the match could have been played the following day which is Sunday 19 April but ZIFA failed to come with a position about that crucial matter.
Only on Tuesday ZIFA through their website announced that the game will be played in May and fans have to pay to watch the match while the match was for free at the National Sports Stadium.
“After wide consultations and deliberations, the Zimbabwe Football Association has seen it fit to order a replay of the 2015independence cup final.
“We have taken into cognisance that the abandonment of the match was a result of force manjeure(un-foreseen events),therefore none of the participating teams was at fault.” Read the post
The decision by ZIFA has angered Dynamos stakeholders and Kenny Mubaiwa had this to say
“ZIFA must just give the trophy to FC Platinum or find another team to replace us, since it is an invitation we are saying no” said Mubaiwa.
On 6 January 2005 Wanderley Luxemburgo saw his Real Madrid tenure get off to a winning start as Zinedine Zidane netted a last-gasp penalty to hand the hosts a crucial three points in their resumed game against Real Sociedad.
The original fixture on December 12 was postponed due to a bomb scare at the Bernabeu with just over six minutes still to play – two minutes and 40 seconds of normal time and four minutes of injury time.
Another game was abandoned Galatasaray v Juventus to continue Game abandoned after 32 minutes (snow and hail) they re-started the game at 32 minutes rather than from the beginning
Only last week, Uefa ordered a replay of the final seconds of an Under-19 Women’s European Championship qualifier between England and Norway starting with a penalty.
Uefa’s disciplinary body ruled that the match should be replayed including a retake of a disallowed England penalty.
Most fans believe that ZIFA should have looked on these scenarios.
“ZIFA should have looked on other scenarios which once happened in the world but surprisingly ZIFA decided to its own way” said Tapiwa Ndagwa.
