Board Chaiperson, Mr Harrison Nkomo
Harrison Nkomo is the First Board Chairperson for the Media Centre. Harrison holds a Bachelors of Laws Degree from the University of Zimbabwe and has been a Registered Legal Practitioner for eight years. Harrison who is a partner of Mtetwa and Nyambirai has represented a number of journalists, both locally and internationally. Harrison’s active involvement in Media Issues saw him being one of the final nominees of the Index on Censorship( an institution that advocates for the media and press freedom in the world) International Award for the year 2009.
Vice Chairperson, Mrs Ellen Kandororo- Dingani
Ellen has a degree in Media Studies from the Zimbabwe Open University (ZOU). She also has a Diploma in Media Studies and a Certificate In Computer Studies all from the Harare Polytechnic College. Ellen is currently studying for her Masters Degree in Commerce in Strategic Management and Corporate Governance with the Midlands State University (MSU). She has worked for the Ecumenical Documentation and Information Centre in Southern Africa (EDICISA) from April 2000- November 2002 and currently works for the Zimbabwe Election Support Network (ZESN ) as a Media and Information Programme Officer. Mrs Dingani has vast experience in electoral observation. Apart from her work in Zimbabwe, she has observed elections in countries like Zambia, Sudan, Namibia, Bangladesh and Malawi among others.
Treasurer , Mr Edward Gomba
Mr Gomba is the Treasurer of the Media Centre Board. He is a Businessman, Insurance broker and Information communication expert. He holds a Higher National Diploma in Computer Studies HEXCO from Harare Polytechnic, Diploma in Information Processing Diploma in Management and a Certificate in Computer Programming. Currently Edward is Studying for a Degree in Marketing. Edward has worked for various insurance companies including Progressive Insurance, ICL Zimbabwe as an Analyst Programmer and Manweb Systems as Director of Operations .Edward has been working for Ruvimbo Funeral Assurance as the Managing Director Since July 2009.
Fazila S. K. Mahomed
Fazila Mahomed is a Self made Freelance Journalist whose work covers a wide range of Social Economic and Political Issues. Fazila has worked as a Media Consultant for AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL. Fazila is a radio correspondent and she covers a wide range of issues in the social domain including HIV/ AIDS. Fazila has also worked as a Freelancer for BBC ASIA NEWS and the Voice of America.
Mr. Dumisani Muleya
Dumisani Muleya is an award winning Investigative reporter working for the Zimbabwe Independent as Assistant Editor. Dumisani has also worked for freight Companies in South Africa as a Public Relations Officer and as a correspondent for different media organisations including Mail & Guardian, Business Day and Sunday Times of South Africa. In Zimbabwe, Dumisani has written extensively on the plight of farm workers. Dumisani has written other major stories including how the Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO) was used to destroy the Zimbabwe Mirror Newspapers Group . In 2005 Dumisani won the Speaker Abbot Award and in 2006 the Cable News Network (CNN) African Journalist of the year, Free Press Award. Dumisani won the award because of his role in exposing the state’s role in the farm invasions of 2000, the state’s abuses in the 2000 parliamentary elections, the rigging of the 2002 Presidential Elections. Dumisani has also assisted and contributed to various print and electronic news outlets in the region and beyond. These include the Mail and Guardian Online, SABC radio, ETV and magazines in the United Kingdom. Dumisani holds a Diploma in Mass Communication in Print Journalism from the Harare Polytechnic College, he has also done a lot of Journalism Courses with Local and International Colleges and is currently studying for a Degree in Media Studies with the University of South Africa (UNISA).
Frank is a multi-skilled freelance Journalist whose career stretches from 1999. Frank has worked for several Radio Stations and Newspapers. Some of the radio stations he has worked for include New Zealand Radio, Shortwave Radio Africa (S.W.Radio Africa) and Voice of America (VOA). The print Media that Frank has worked for include, Africa Confidential, the Nation and the Weekly Times. Frank was the founding Editor for the now defunct Southern News, a Regional Newspaper. Frank has also worked as a producer and cameraman for ETV News and British Broadcasting Corporation(BBC). Frank was awarded a Human Rights reporter of the year Award in 2008 and the Journalist Excellence and Free Speech award in 2009 from the United States of America (USA). Frank has a Radio Journalism Certificate (South Africa), Multimedia online Journalism Certificate (Germany), a Journalism and Professional writing Diploma (South Africa). Frank is currently Studying for a Degree in Broadcast Journalism.
Dr Wallace Chuma
Dr. Chuma is a Senior Media Lecturer at the University of Cape Town (UCT) ’s Center for Film and Media Studies. He holds a PhD (Journalism & Media Studies) from the University of the Witwatersrand, and degrees in English and Communication from the University of Zimbabwe (UZ). At UCT, Dr. Chuma teaches a range of undergraduate and postgraduate media theory and print media production courses. He was instrumental in the design of the Honours and Masters in Political Communication programme, which was launched by the department in 2007 and which he convenes. Dr. Wallace Chuma is a researcher and Senior Lecturer in the Centre for Film and Media Studies, University of Cape Town, South Africa. Dr. Chuma is a former journalist and editor of the Daily News and the Zimbabwe Mirror, respectively, and has also spent time working for the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette ,Pennsylvania, USA as an Alfred Friendly Press Fellow. Dr.Chuma also had a brief stint as a journalist at the Botswana Guardian and Midweek Sun. Dr.Chuma is an active researcher who has presented papers at local, regional and international conferences, and published book chapters and peer-reviewed journal articles. His co-edited book, Media Policy in a Changing Southern Africa, was published by University Of South Africa (UNISA) Press in January 2010. He is a former Vice Chairperson for the Media Institute of Southern Africa (MISA) Zimbabwe Chapter.
Grace holds an MBA in Strategic Management and a BSC Computer Science degree both from the University of Zimbabwe. Grace is highly skilled in the IT Industry. She was the first female Cisco Certified Security Expert in Zimbabwe. Grace has worked for various organisations in Botswana, Malawi, South Africa and Zambia. In Zimbabwe she has worked for Information Technology (IT) firms such as Africom where she served as Chief Executive Officer after briefly working as the Head of Sales and Marketing. She also worked for CompuNet as a Software Development Manager. She is currently the Director of Comstar which specialises in IT Project Management.
